km. from Cienfuegos lays this small beautiful beach bathed by the Caribbean
Sea, having a half-rounded form, fine sands and quiet waters. Its especially
uneven coastal shelf, inhabited by a thriving sea life and plenty of lovely
coral formations at low and medium depths, has several ideal diving sites
at Ensenada de Barreras and Las Playitas. Deeper immersions display a
broken surface rich in sponges, sea fans and coral beds.
Some diving centers operate in the area, such as Faro Luna, Guajimico y Whale Shark, featuring beginners’ courses, day and nighttime immersions around sunken ships and reefs, as well as catamaran, aquabike and kayac rides.
It’s
an area with spectacular coral reefs inhabited by myriads of all-sized
all-colored species, and full of sunken ships. Among the coral beds of
the region, Notre Dame, the highest coral formation in the Americas, with
a height of 5 m. can be seen.
